Brief History of Wimberley, Texas

The first people to live in Wimberly were the Comanche and Apache Native American tribes. They considered the area to be sacred, and it was home to many of their ceremonies and spiritual rituals.

In 1846, a group of settlers from Iowa led by Daniel Wimberly arrived in the area. They named the town after their leader, and it soon became a popular spot for farmers and ranchers.

Wimberly played a significant role in the Texas Revolution. In 1836, local resident James Butler Bonham rode to San Antonio to warn General Sam Houston of the impending attack by Mexican forces. Bonham later died at the Battle of San Jacinto, which secured Texas’ independence from Mexico.

Today, Wimberly is a popular tourist destination thanks to its beautiful scenery and charming small-town atmosphere. The town hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, including the annual Bluebonnet Festival in April and the Hill Country Christmas Market in December.
